Registration Level 1 course Diving Medicine part 2, NL, 2025

The following topics are covered:

  • Physiological adaptation during diving:
  • what are the changes during immersion, submersion and apnea diving?
  • Dive Safety: diving procedures, diving equipment, gas mixtures, different kinds of divers, safety planning, safety regulation.
  • Practice session - Diving Medical Examinaton (DME): how is a DME performed?
  • Dive Accidents: differential diagnosis, pre-clinical treatment, knowledge of HBOT for diving accidents.
  • Environmental factors: marine life, diving conditions, stress factors.

Number of participants:
Given the structure and the interactive nature of this course, up to 20 people can register.

Entrance level:
The course is open to physicians who successfully finished the diving medicine level 1 course Part I.

Accreditation:
The course is part of the international certification of Medical Examiners of Divers.

Certificate:
On completion of the course, all participants will receive a certificate of attendance.

Course materials:
The course manual will be distributed on the first day of the course.

The Scott Haldane Level 1 course in Diving Medicine is for any doctor wanting to know more about diving and hyperbaric medicine, and who plans to do diving medical examinations, to certify in diving medicine and to further their education in Diving Medicine.

The course is split into two parts: Part I covers the basic principles in hyperbaric physics and hyperbaric physiology, diving disease and the requirements for ‘fit to dive’ examinations. Part II covers the practice of the diving medical examination, an introduction to hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT), the medical consequences of different diving conditions, and different types of diving. The course meets all international requirements of the European Committee for Hyperbaric Medicine (ECHM), leading to the internationally recognized certification, Medical Examiner of Divers.

Cancellation Policy

The following cancellation policies apply to this course:

  • In case of cancellation by the student or partner more than three months before the start of the activity for which registration has taken place, € 150 will be charged administration fees payable plus any non-refundable ticket, accommodation and diving costs.
  • In case of cancellation by the student or partner between three months and one month before the start of the activity for which registration has taken place, 90% of the total registration costs are due, plus any non-refundable ticket, accommodation and diving costs.
  • If cancellation by the student or partner one month or less before the start of the activity for which registration has taken place, 100% of the total registration costs are due.

All cancellations must be made in writing (by email) to the Scott Haldane Foundation.
The date of receipt at the Scott Haldane Foundation is decisive for the stated periods.
