32nd SHF in-depth course What a diving doctor MUST know (1)

In this course we delve deeper into the issues that play an essential role in diving and hyperbaric medicine and that should be part of the standard knowledge of the diving and hyperbaric physician. This topic was also chosen at the request of many who have indicated this on the course evaluation forms in recent years. In particular, the physiology and physics of diving medicine are discussed extensively. Attention is also paid to hyperbaric medicine, which means that this course meets the requirements for the 'hyperbaric medicine' component for the certification as Diving Medicine Physician (DMP).

This year the course will be held on the island of the gods, Bali. We will be using the beautiful 5* Siddhartha resort. This resort is located on the east side of Bali, far from the major tourist areas, directly on the sea. The 30 bungalows and 2 villas (with 2 separate bedrooms and private pool) are in perfect harmony with nature on a terraced hill. The beautiful tropical garden was created with great expertise and attention to detail. And all that with a breathtaking view of the 3241m high volcano, the Gunung Agung. In addition to the beautiful bungalows where you will stay, the conference room and the diving school are also located on the resort. There is also a lovely large swimming pool, a cozy bar, a good restaurant, a yoga terrace and an excellent spa & massage. In short, a place you will not want to leave. With the sea and the most beautiful diving spots on your doorstep, including the famous large wreck of the US Liberty. At these dive sites you will find a lot of fish, from sharks, sometimes a whale or whale shark to beautiful nudibranchs, (pygmy) seahorses, frogfish, Napoleon groupers and basically everything you can find in tropical waters around Indonesia. Just a short drive and you are at the dive sites of Ahmed or Nusa Penida for manta rays and mola mola. There are also many possibilities for land excursions from temple visits to climbing Gunung Agung.

November 8 up to and including November 15, 2025 

Number of participants:
Given the design of the course and its interactive nature, a maximum of 25 people can participate. Partners do not count towards this maximum. 

Entry level:
The course is open to doctors with demonstrable knowledge of diving medicine at least at the level of Medical Examiner of Divers. Those who have completed the Level 1 course part 1 are also admitted. 

Accreditation:
To be requested from NICDA, ECB and RIZIV. 

Certificate:
Participants will receive a certificate of attendance at the end of the course. 

Course material:
The course material will be sent to you approximately 10 days before departure. The course and course material are entirely in English if there are non-Dutch-speaking students. 

Travel:
The flight to Bali starts from Amsterdam-Schiphol and ends in Denpasar. From there, the transfer continues by comfortable bus to the beautiful Siddhartha resort. You can arrange your own flights (see registration form) 

Accommodation:
The Siddhartha resort has various types of bungalows and villas. All accommodations are equipped with air conditioning, mini-bar and small refrigerator, electric kettle, safe and free WiFi. Daily housekeeping is standard.

Superior Bungalows for 1-2 persons,45 m2 with queen size bed.

Our freestanding Superior Bungalows are surrounded by stunning tropical gardens and each has an outdoor terrace with sunbeds and sitting area, a queen-size bed, desk area, and tropical bathroom with a covered 2-sided rain shower. Your en-suite bathroom includes custom-made toiletries, a hairdryer, bathrobes, and slippers.

DeLuxe Bungalows for 1-3 persons,55 m2 with queen size bed.and day bed.

Most of our Deluxe Bungalows have ocean views. Each freestanding Deluxe Bungalow is spacious and comfortable with a private balcony with sunbeds and a sitting area. The Deluxe Bungalow interiors feature high ceilings, a queen bed, desk area, a window daybed (that can convert to a single bed), a minibar, and an open-air tropical bathroom with a covered outdoor 2-sided rain shower. Your en-suite bathroom includes custom-made toiletries, a hairdryer, bathrobes, and slippers.

Ocean Front DeLuxe Bungalows for 1-3 persons, 65 m2 with king size bed and day bed.

The Oceanfront Deluxe Bungalows will make your stay with us unforgettable. Complete with the sound of crashing waves and breathtaking sea views, each bungalow is freestanding and has a private balcony with sunbeds and a sitting area to relax on and to rejoice in the magic of the ocean. Wake up to the first rays of the sun as she rises over the ocean, bathing the room in warm, Golden light. The bungalow interiors are spacious with high ceilings, a king bed, a window daybed (that can convert into a single bed), desk area, minibar, and a large open-air tropical bathroom with a covered outdoor 2-sided rain shower. Your en-suite bathroom includes custom-made toiletries, a hairdryer, bathrobes, and slippers. On top of the formentioned facilities these bungalows have been equiped with Satellite TV and bluetooth speakers.

2-Bedroom Oceanfront Pool Villas for max 5 pesrsons, 58 m2 (x2) with king size beds (2x). 

Siddhartha has 2 private Oceanfront Pool Villas. Spanning a lavish 228+ square meters, each villa is designed as an intimate haven maximizing natural light, openness, and expansive oceanfront views with a private garden and direct access to the sea. Two separate master bedrooms with ensuite outdoor tropical bathrooms are separated by a common outdoor lounge and dining area, kitchenette, and large outdoor terrace with sunbeds – all overlooking a private pool, and of course, the ocean. Each en-suite tropical bathroom has a covered outdoor 2-sided rain shower and includes custom-made toiletries, a hairdryer, bathrobes, and slippers.On top of the formentioned facilities these bungalows have been equiped with Satellite TV and bluetooth speakers.

Diving:
If you are a certified diver and are not taking a diving course, a 10 dive package is included in the price. Any rental of diving equipment is not included in the costs in this case (air and lead are included). For those with a Nitrox certificate, free or extra charge Nitrox is available. On the course-free days, it is possible to make various diving excursions. It is also possible to obtain various diving certificates such as Open Water diver or Advanced Open Water diver. Costs:
Including flights, transfers, accommodation based on bed and breakfast, 2 pers. superior bungalow*, 10 boat/shore dives, the diving medicine course Incl. coffee, tea and snacks, the price starts at €3100,-**. The later you book, the higher the price may be due to the lower availability of airplane seats***. Given the large number of people who book their own tickets and the many options available to get to Bali, group bookings are not possible. Individual tickets can be booked. The prices for these tickets fluctuate greatly. The above price is based on the economy class rate as of February 1, 2025. Since our accommodation requires a deposit, we ask you to pay a deposit of €800 upon registration. Via the registration form. Practice shows that the courses fill up quickly. The availability of flight seats and accommodation depends on the order of registration. Your registration is final once we have received your registration form. However,The date of receipt of the down payment determines the order of registration.

Cancellation Policy

The following cancellation policies apply to this course:

• In case of cancellation by the student or partner more than three months before the start of the activity for which registration has taken place, € 150 will be charged administration fees payable plus any non-refundable ticket, accommodation and diving costs.
• In case of cancellation by the student or partner between three months and two months before the start of the activity for which registration has taken place, 90% of the total registration costs are due, plus any non-refundable ticket, accommodation and diving costs.
• If cancellation by the student or partner two months or less before the start of the activity for which registration has taken place, 100% of the total registration costs are due.

All cancellations must be made in writing (by email) to the Scott Haldane Foundation.
The date of receipt at the Scott Haldane Foundation is decisive for the stated periods.
