The Scott Haldane Foundation, or as it is officially known, the Scott Haldane Stichting, was established in 1976 with the primary goal of spreading knowledge about diving medicine among medical professionals.
In its early years, the foundation organized symposia and published booklets on diving medicine.
After a "quiet" period of approximately 15 years, the Scott Haldane Foundation resumed its mission by developing and organizing courses in diving and hyperbaric medicine.
What has happened since then?
- A multi-level training program has been established.
- Over 2,100 physicians have been introduced to diving medicine through SHF.
- A certification system for recreational diving physicians has been created, which now operates under an independent organization, the Dutch Institute for Certification of Diving Physicians (NICDA).
- A maintenance system for certification has been implemented, supporting the continuous medical education (CME) of (recreational) diving physicians.
- Internationalization of training and certification has been achieved, leading to recognition as Medical Examiner of Divers (MED) and Diving Medicine Physician (DMP) under the auspices of the European Committee for Hyperbaric Medicine (ECHM) and the European College of Baromedicine (ECB).
- The Scott Haldane Foundation aims to develop into the premier international knowledge transfer center for diving medicine.
