The relationship between EUBS, ECMH, ECB and SHF

The European Underwater and Baromedical Society (EUBS),  European Committee for Hyperbaric Medicine (ECHM), the European College of Baromedicine (ECB and the Scott Haldane Foundation are closely linked but have different roles:

EUBS is a scientific and professional society focused on:

  • Research in diving and hyperbaric medicine.
  • Education, networking, and knowledge sharing among physicians, scientists, and diving professionals.
  • Promoting safe diving practices and evidence-based hyperbaric therapy.

ECHM is primarily a scientific and advisory body.

  • It develops consensus statements, recommendations, and guidelines in hyperbaric and diving medicine.
  • It focuses on clinical standards, safety, research, and best practices across Europe.

ECB is the educational and professional arm that puts those standards into practice.

  • It is responsible for training standards, accreditation, examinations, and certification of physicians in diving and hyperbaric medicine.
  • It ensures harmonized recognition of qualifications across European countries.

SHF is a training provider, offering structured courses in diving and hyperbaric medicine for physicians.

  • Our courses cover the knowledge and practical skills required to safely examine divers, manage dive-related emergencies, and provide hyperbaric treatments
